The benefits of early childhood music are many. Fine and gross motor skills are improved through improvisational dancing and playing instruments. Singing promotes vocal and speech development. Listening skills and concentration improve with aural training. The old-fashioned goals of sharing and cooperation are reinforced with the sharing of instruments and encouragement of other students. The most important benefit, however, is the proven positive effects music has on brain development. This has been thoroughly researched and documented and is most crucial during the first six years, when the most important brain development is taking place.
There is a growing body of research that suggests that the younger the child is, the more he/she is learning. Even though a baby cannot run, clap or sing the class, his/her brain is developing at a faster rate than the brains of older children. Additionally, research suggests that during the second six months of life the brain is already prioritizing: discarding the neural information pathways not stimulated by its environment.
So, the best possible time to start music classes is when your child is a baby!
